Klasky-Csupo and Nickelodeon have already made a success of two big-screen Rugrats adventures and now give their Wild Thornberrys series the same treatment... and happily, the results are even better.
Nigel and Marianne Thornberry, produce and host a cable nature series, which takes them into wild habitats all over the world. But they are also parents... and like moms and dads everywhere, they have had to make some compromises to combine work and family life. To keep their family together, they have raised their girls on the road, where they make their home in an RV fitted with the high-tech gear they need to film and transmit their exciting adventures.
As if this wasn't enough, their younger daughter Eliza, has been given the magical power to be able to communicate with the animals they encounter on their journeys... but, it is something she must keep secret from her family.
The series is funny... and the movie is even better. In this outing, Eliza battles poachers who steal a cheetah cub entrusted to her by his mother. Feeling responsible, she goes to great lengths to rescue the cub and apprehend the bad guys. The plot is engaging, the jokes and sight gags are truly funny, and the animated African landscapes look gorgeous on the big screen. There were a couple of instances when the very youngest kids in our viewing had to climb on their parents' laps (the movie is rated PG for "some adventure peril")... but the scary parts were truly mild and did not last long. This film is a winner.
