- January 10: Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse 150th Anniversary Celebration Time: 2pm-5pm. Dedication ceremony celebrating 150 years. Free public tours, children's activities, birthday cake-off contest... For more information on this year's event, please visit our website.
- January 23: Winterfest Benefitting JHS Criminal Justice Program and JPD Explorers. Time: 11am-6pm. Location: In front of the Jupiter Community Center. The Jupiter High School Criminal Justice Program and the Jupiter Police Department Explorers are hosting the first ever Jupiter Winter Fest. Wristbands can be purchased at the event and allow the wearer access to: bounce houses, giant slides, obstacle courses, bungee run, rock wall, and a dunk tank. More fun is available with ticket purchases, such as: Professional Fortune Teller & Tarot Card readings, Face Painting, Airbrush Body Art, Cotton Candy, Hair Locks, and Raffles. Wristband pricing: 6 years and up - $8; 5 years and under - $5; Infants - Free; Accompanying adults - $1. Come for great food (available with meals starting at $3 -- Burgers - Pulled Pork - Teriyaki Chicken - Hot Dogs - Chicken Tenders - Drinks). There will also be a live band, School of Rock, a DJ with dance contests and prizes and Tae Kwon Do demonstration.
The second year of the Jupiter High School Criminal Justice Program is in full swing. This program and the Jupiter Police Department Explorer program are wonderful opportunities for our local youth to learn and experience the many aspects of law enforcement. Classroom supplies, uniforms, educational trips, books and other materials are not readily available for these programs which face tight budget cuts in this economy. Funds raised at this event will benefit both of these worthy programs. We thank you in advance for helping to make this a successful event for our entire community! June 2010 Local Happenings:
- June 5: Jupiter Music Festival Location: Roger Dean Stadium, 4751 Main Street, Jupiter. Join the fun and support JTAA sports scholarships! Enjoy three all-American favorites: bands, beer and baseball from noon to 10pm at Roger Dean Stadium. Seven local bands, including headliner B-Liminal, will play between noon and 6:30 p.m. A sports carnival for children will run from noon to 8 p.m. and will include bounce houses, face painting, and a petting zoo. A minor league baseball game, between The Palm Beach Cardinals and The Daytona Cubs, begins at 7:05 p.m. Fireworks will start after the game ends. ESPN Radio will broadcast live from the event. Cost: Advanced tickets start at $8 for kids 8 and under, and $12 for adults. VIP tickets are also available for $30. Your ticket allows you access throughout the day! - July 3-4: Jupiter's Old Fashioned 4th of July @ Abacoa Events from July 3 - July 4. Location: Abacoa Town Center. Some of the scheduled events: Car & art shows; contests; rides & inflatables; tribute bands & DJs; Busch Wildlife exhibit; baseball games & fireworks. - July 4: An Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration Sponsored by A Wounded Warrior's Second Chance and the Village of Tequesta. Location: Constitution Park, Seabrook Rd., Tequesta. Time: 12noon-5pm. Cost: Free for Village of Tequesta Residents. Non-Residents $10 adults, $5 for children 12 and under. All proceeds to benefit A Wounded Warrior's Second Chance. - July 6-9: Musikgarten Camp at Jupiter Academy of Music Time: 10am-noon. Location: 500 Commerce Way West, Jupiter, FL 33458. Ages 2 to 4 with parent or caregiver: Sing/dance and create with your child in Musikgarten/Crafts camp. Musikgarten is a sequential music curriculum for ages birth through 9 years. - July 16: Environmental Activist visits Busch Wildlife Sanctuary "Listening to the Everglades" Time: 6:30pm. Location: Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, 2500 Jupiter Park Drive, Jupiter, FL. Busch Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes Joel M. Curazon - an environmental activist who has just published a breathtaking book about the Everglades. He is coming to Florida for the GEER conference and will be at Busch Wildlife Sanctuary on the evening of July 16th for a presentation on "wise growth" in Florida. - Busch Wildlife Sanctuary Offers Free Wildlife Programs The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is more than just a place to see animals, it's a real wildlife adventure! Stop by on Tuesday through Friday at 3:00pm for our free wildlife programs. On Saturdays at 11 am and 2:30pm our junior naturalists put on their own program, so come by and support our efforts to encourage young children to take interrest in their natural world. Our wildlife programs are free and open to the public and are located in our Cypress Amphitheater. These presentations offer visitors a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn about Florida’s wildlife and natural environments and get face to face with our sanctuary's animals. We guarantee a real wild experience! Afterward, visitors are invited to tour the Sanctuary's nature trails where they will encounter a variety of native animals from eagles to panthers, crocodiles, foxes, snakes, and more. The Busch Wildlife Sanctuary is located on the grounds of the Loxahatchee River District at 2500 Jupiter Park Drive. From I-95 (exit 87A) or the Florida Turnpike (exit #116) take the Jupiter exit and go east to Central Blvd. and head south to the next traffic light (Jupiter Park Drive) and go west one block, the Sanctuary entrance is on the left. - Busch Wildlife Sanctuary Offers Yoga Connect with your environment while taking yoga at the Busch Wildlife Sanctuary. A certified yoga instructor will lead classes in our Cypress Amphitheater. Experience the union between Floridas unique wildlife and the mind and body experience of yoga! Beginners and advanced students welcome! Classes are available on Thursday at 6:00pm to 7:00pm. - Friends of Jupiter Beach - Help us keep the beach clean! Join us the first Saturday of each month at the Ocean Cay Park located at the intersection of Marcinski and Route A1A (Beach road) at 8:00 AM. Stop by, get your name tag and we'll assign you a specific area to clean. We clean up the beach, crossovers and A1A roadsides. Following the clean-up at 9:30, we provide a delicious breakfast for all, courtesy of the the Publix markets at Bluffs Square , Jupiter Square and Tequesta and, Dunkin Donuts in Juno Beach, Jon Smith Subs on Indiantown Road, Jupiter and also Donald Ross Rd, Jupiter, Brooklyn Bagel - Indiantown & Central Blvd ALL are welcome!!
